The Flying M is a small (family owned since 1942) ranch in Northeastern San Luis Obispo County in Central California. We are located halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. 

We are 480 acres of mostly grazing land and wildlife habitat. Lots of critters share our land. When my parents bought this place in 1942 the rolling hills were used for dry-land wheat farming and cattle. In 1950 my dad realized that the soil of the ranch was not suitable for this type of farming. He quit the practice and started raising beef cattle only, initiating an attempt to care for the land and rebuild the native grassland….We are still in this effort. Now we raise small numbers of beef cattle and market grass fed beef. We also have 150+ olive trees for olive oil production. These are our cash crops. 

Our Olive Orchard is a wide variety of mostly Spanish varietals.  However, I must say that friends and family brought us trees as gifts during the planting period.  My record keeping is not the best. I will say that everyone who tastes our EVOO is impressed. More than ¾ of our customers are repeat buyers.

We are NOT certified organic but easily could be. For the olives we only add three elements to their health. Sporadic fertilization with Certified Organic fertilizers and small doses of GL-150, a certified organic spray for the Mediterranean Fruit Fly which plagues all Olive Growers across the state. These, and the pristine waters of our ranch are the only things we add  For the beef, they only get their baby shots and, from then on, only mother’s mild and the rich grasses of the Flying M are all that they ingest.
