Vol. 1 No.1

Thank you, my friends, for taking the time to have a look at our new website and to this Blog. I have held this column as a project I should start for many years. In another life and 50 years ago Linda and I worked as lecture film producers for National Audubon Society. As we travelled over this continent lecturing for local Audubon chapters we were often hosted by local activists. One night, we were in some town (long ago forgotten) having dinner with a local journalist (whose name also has slipped away) and I brought up my vision of doing a column (blogs were no yet even in Science fiction) dealing with my travels and ideas. We were travelling a lot then and ideas were not hard to encounter. This man was at the end of his journalistic career and told me that he had the same idea and he was feeling too old to ever get it started. He gave me the name for my dream. THE WORLD IS MY BEAT. I am now about 10 years OLDER than he was then and here I go. I will try to keep it worth the read.

You should know that I am writing this, the first try at a new adventure, on March 21, 2000. Just last night California Governor, Gavin Newsom, announced that the entire state will, as midnight tonight, will hunkered in place. US has had 25,239 Covid 19 identifies cases and 297 fatalities; California has recorded 1,315/24. Of course, I will have to keep this as a part of my Blog but it will not overpower it. The power of nature is a very healing item.

This blog will be published sporadically but I will try to keep it pretty regular. The first few issues will be what I am seeing around the ranch and our local area. As soon as we can travel again it will branch out and the last word in the title will become more important. Thank you for reading through this first one and I hope you will keep up with….Best…….g
